Pianists Aidan Mikdad (2001) and Ramon van Engelenhoven (1995) have been selected, after auditions, to perform Poulenc’s Concerto for two pianos. This performance is part of the programme ‘Rituelen’ (Rituals) which the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra will perform in April 2018 under the baton of Matthew Rowe. We are thrilled to announce that pianist Aidan Mikdad (15) has won the fifth Concertgebouw Young Talent Award. According to Simon Reinink, Director of Het Concertgebouw, Aidan Mikdad is an exceptionally gifted musician. ‘We are very happy to present Aidan with the Concertgebouw Young Talent Award, because he has the talent, ambition and motivation to become one of the best performers in his field.’

Aidan studies with Mila Baslawskaja in the first year of the bachelor’s degree programme at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Already he has won several prestigious prizes, such as first prize at the International Piano Competition of Lagny-sur-Marne (2014) and first prize at the Royal Concertgebouw Competition (2013). Last year the won the Italian Premio Internazionale Pianistico ‘A. Scriabin’ in the category ‘pianists up to 35 years of age’, being by far the youngest contestant.

The Concertgebouw Young Talent Award aims to give young talented musicians the opportunity to break through on an international level and to perform in major concert halls in Europe and beyond. The award consists of a bronze sculpture and a grant of € 5.000,- to be put towards study.

We are proud to announce that Aidan Mikdad (15) has been invited to participate in the Verbier Festival Academy. It is a great honour  to be part of the academy for a second year in a row. The Verbier Festival Academy is part of the Verbier Festival, which will take -place from July 18 – August 6 2017 in Switzerland. Aidan’s participation includes masterclasses with Sergei Babayan, Richard Goode, Klaus Hellwig, Ferenc Rados &  András Schiff, a solo & a chamber music performance.
Last year,  Aidan received the Tabor Foundation Piano Award from the Verbier Festival as a recognition of his potential and as an investment in his promise.

Last Summer, the Verbier Festival Academy has invited him to participate as student-in-residence. This is an exceptional honour and testifies to the high level of playing Aidan has attained at such a young age. The Academy is part of the Verbier Festival. Aidan’s participation included masterclasses in Piano with Klaus Hellwig and Sergei Babayan, and a solo performance. In addition, he followed chamber music masterclasses with Pamela Frank and Gábor Takács-Nagy.
